Begin your journey with the first steps to becoming a fire performer! This class is a contemporary interpretation of an ancient Polynesian tradition, poi balls. This class will introduce new flow artists to a common poi spinning technique called weaves. The class will cover learning to spin poi on the side of your body, crossing hands, and turning with your props. The first section will cover technique concepts that form the base of poi spinning. From there, we will step up to learning 2-beat forward and backward weaves, and finally link the techniques using turns.
Class time devoted to lecture: 5-10 minutes
